This is an important message for all humans.
While I’m a full believer that true beauty lies on the inside, as a human it’s pretty hard not to want to look good. Am I right??
We are brought up with mainstream images that portray what beauty is supposed to look like. We must have curves, but not too many. Don’t forget to put some color on your lips so you look sophisticated. Do this, Do that…blah, blah, blah. The way society places such high value on outward beauty impacts our personal belief systems. Your belief system is powerful. Usually the stories we have in our heads are developed before we reach age 7. We are so innocent as children, we do not know how to filter out information, we observe and absorb what is in our environments and what comes into our heads.
Real life example: when I was little I thought something was wrong with me because I didn’t have blonde hair like Barbie. I can remember this self- limiting thought from when I was probably 4 years old!
So how to be breakthrough these old belief systems that no longer serve us?
The first step is to become aware of them. Depending on your childhood experiences, these can be deep and painful, or just confusing and irrational in the mind of you know as an adult. Whatever comes up, just let it, and try not to label it or react to it. In order to get through it and release the thoughts and beliefs that hold us back, we need to go through it. Sit with the hurt and the pain and move through with care, kindness, and patience for yourself. Just remember it is really important to investigate these self- limiting beliefs or stories so that you can connect with your true self.
When you are ready to rewrite your thoughts and beliefs you can use a simple yet effective method, called the choose again method. When a negative thought, feeling, or emotion comes up and you are aware of it, simply retrain your thought process and choose to begin again, with a different thought, feeling, or belief that aligns with your higher self. You can ask- what would my higher self do in this moment? Then replace the old thought, feeling, belief with your new aligned one. That simple shift is so powerful.
Make sure you continue to work towards awareness with everything you think, say, and surround yourself with. You have permission to do what you need to do to make you happy. Be selfish in that fact that you no longer put your inner self second and everyone else + your ego first. Let the ego take the backseat, we still need it, but it is no longer the driver. With these mindset shifts you can move mountains.
