The Short Story:
❀ I don’t believe that I stumbled upon Beautycounter by accident two and a half years ago. Although I was nervous buying new makeup products without knowing anyone who had tried them out before me, I am so happy I did. I loved them and I immediately felt aligned with the company’s standards, mission and the high quality of their products. Since that first purchase, I have learned more and more about the beauty industry and what Beautycounter’s advocating for. Because of this, in June 2019 I joined the business as a Beautycounter consultant and have been spreading awareness about the significance of using safer beauty products. If Beautycounter has bettered my life, I know that there are other people out there that can benefit from it as well. So that is why I am here and you are reading this! You can read on about my Beautycounter journey below in case you want more deets!
The Long Story:
❀ During Summer 2012, when I was still in college, I started to notice that my body was not happy about something. My eyes were getting super dry and itchy and there seemed to be no relief in sight (no pun intended). At first I thought it was allergies, so I bought over the counter redness-relief allergy eye drops and there was some initial help. I did not know at the time how damaging the redness relief eye drops can be if used too much. My eye condition seemed to worsened, it ended up becoming too much to bear so I went to the eye doctor.
I found out through a tear test that my eyes produced a very minimal amount of tears. The doctor told me I could get tear-duct plugs…so I did. There was little to no relief and to be honest I think I just became more immune to the pain/discomfort of having dry eyes as the years went on…(it has been 7 years of ups and downs with my eyes. I have had multiple issues with the plugs that I got back in 2012 and series of eye irritations and reactions from them).
During the new era of not having any tears to protect my eyeballs from outside conditions, I really started to become aware of what was making my eyes happy and what was pissing my eyes off.
I became so in tune with my body and made it my mission to reclaim my health. I discovered Eastern Medicine and an entirely different approach to wellness- integrative/holistic wellness. I even went back to school and got my Masters in Kinesiology-Concentration in Integrative Wellness to learn as much as I could. I felt so aligned with a lifestyle medicine approach so I adopted it into my own life. I started to watch what I put IN and ON my body. I became very conscious with the product selection in my home and what I surrounded myself with. This was especially the case with food…but also with the makeup and skincare I was using….
This started the search to find eye makeup (eyeliner and mascara mainly) products that I could tolerate. I searched for keywords like “hypoallergenic” and “natural” which lead me to trying all sorts of things. I ended up giving up on eye liner all together. But the search continued for mascara, because I always loved the full-lash look!
Then one day in 2017 my search came to an end- when I stumbled upon Beautycounter. I made my first order (hello Flawless in Five) and loved it so much! Since then I have learned more about the company’s standards, mission and the high quality of their products.
During this time I also dove deep and worked on my mindset around my health. I shifted my perspective from being a victim and operating under a “why me?”, “why is this happening TO me?” mindset to a “why NOT me?”, “why is this happening FOR me?” mindset.
❀ I came to realize that If I did not go through the health issues I did back in 2012 with my eyes and with the autoimmune condition I was diagnosed with in 2015, I might have never found Beautycounter.
A HUGE reason why I became a consultant is because I wanted to spread awareness about issues in the personal care/beauty industry that most people are are not clued in on. I am passionate about sharing how important it is to know what you put on your body. The beauty industry is virtually unregulated by the FDA…so it is SUPER important to be your own investigator with the products you use. Oh and P.S. the terms “hypoallergenic” and “natural” have essentially no meaning because they are not regulated currently.
Another reason Beautycounter is so amazing is that they are the leading force in advocating for Better Beauty laws. The Beautycounter products that I stand behind are among the highest performing AND contain the safest ingredients.
If you want to know anything more about Beautycounter and their products, we believe in transparency so just ask away and I would be more than happy to help!
