Let’s dive deeper into self love and go over why it’s so important to practice it on a daily basis if you truly want to live your best life.
We aren’t just talking about any kind of self love, though…
This is all about unconditional self-love!
Your dog will keep loving you no matter what. Your dog is still going to love you even if you don’t give him a bone or pet him on the head. There are no conditions, the dog will still love you.
Imagine opening your door and having that same amount of love for yourself that your dog has for you (even when you’re gone for just 5 minutes).
Keep that image of unconditional love in your mind as we move ahead into self-love.
Practicing self love is brave. BUT, do you want to know one of the bravest things you can do (and also the most rewarding)?
Loving yourself unconditionally!
There’s no conditions with unconditional love, so you accept all that you are and all that you have been.
You learn to enjoy the changes as you go through life during your life’s stages.
When the road gets rocky, you are able to persevere because the love you have for yourself has no conditions.
Now, let’s talk a bit more about the conditions we place on ourselves. (read more in the blog post linked below)
Instead of waiting to be happy and making it dependent on having a certain thing- why not just be happy now?
Easier said than done, right?
By reframing your approach (your thinking) surrounding a goal or what you are aiming to achieve, you CAN massively improve your state of happiness.
A great way to start is through the practice of awareness. I talk about this in more detail in my 7 Day Mini-Course “Unstuck” Yourself...you have to be aware of where you are NOW in order to get to where you are striving to go. No shooting blanks or you’ll be spinning your wheels!
The aim is to become aware of the conditions you have placed on yourself/accepted without any judgment. We do this by observing and noting what words, thoughts, feelings come up on a regular basis (like repetitive thoughts), and what thoughts pop up surrounding your desires (“I’m not good enough”, “that would be nice, but it’s impossible for me to do have that”, etc.).
This approach gets to the root cause, which helps you understand where you are coming from (that you may not consciously be aware of).
This is NOT just trying to “think positive,” and wishing for things to get easier, better, or “like the good ole’ days.”
It also isn’t forcing yourself to keep living in the confines of a box that no longer support your happiness or wellbeing. When you do this, you diminish your full potential and it can lead to regret and resentment later on in life for “not going for it.”
Here’s what it takes to start:
In the end, coming from a place of love first, then choosing actions that support you in reaching your goals, allows you to enjoy your life without any conditions.
Along with practicing awareness, here’s a great way to take action right now:
Set your timer for 10-15 minutes (that’s it!)
Get into a comfortable seated position and take a couple deep breaths (you may close your eyes and take as much time as you need).
Let yourself connect with your body as you feel the chair or floor beneath you supporting your entire body. Once you feel settled you will open your eyes, turn on your imagination to limitless potential, and reflect on these prompts.
Write down as much (and in as much detail as you can) to help you find more clarity and confidence in exploring self love. Be honest with yourself- this is your practice 🙏
